Advantages/Disadvantages

Frost Golems are now the units of choice for any player who has them. The golem effectively kills off a unit in a single hit. If the opposing player does not have sufficient skill in focus-breaking, a single golem, along with a few surrounding units, can take down a whole team. With their huge health base, they can take quite a few Scout hits/Mud quakes before dying.
Without any armor at all, Frost Golems are soft targets for range units.

Formation

Frost Golems can be used well behind a wall of units (usually knights). There's the popular Ice Fortress (wall of frontline Knights) and the Stone/Frost Golems combo.
They can also be used on the flanks of formations to prevent fast units going deep into your territory

Tactics

Frost Golems can defend a whole base. In Ice Fortress formations, the Frost Golem stays behind a wall of knights, paralyzing any units that happen to come close enough.    The knights use their high blocking to ensure that the Frost Golem does not get hit by melee units. A lightning ward or a Dragon can ensure that any Scout that gets within range gets blasted.
In Frost/Stone combos, the Frost can eliminate any unit that comes within range to take out the Stone's focus. Because that unit is most likely a ranged unit, that is one fewer unit to worry about (in terms of breaking the Frost's focus).
Generally, the Frost Golem will Freeze a unit allowing you to take it out before the focus gets cracked. Any melee units that tries to break the focus will inevitably become part of your wall of units.

Against

No matter how high your power, one unit will never be able to take out a Frost Golem. Always attack with more than one unit (preferably ranged or with low recovery times). A Scout and a Mud Golem will make short work of a Frost Golem over the course of a few turns. Always make sure not to let your units become part of the Frost's wall.
